Freaky to the mainstream
03 novembre 2006
Every parent will eventually know the pleasure of seeing their freaky
teenagers turn into ordinary human beings. Frightening as it seems now,
Spotty Simon will eventually buy his own home and holidays and have to
work for a living. In the world of technology, open sourcing is also
coming of age. From being a “flakey idea that will never work”,
community software has become a legitimate business model. Not without
cost or effort. It is with sympathy that we observe the new attention being given to security of open PBX software. Stepping into the mainstream can be a long, painful process. It is, though, a sign of maturity that these holes are being spotted and patched. It means that applications are being taken seriously, given some respect.
Asterix needs to step up to the same fundamental challenges that its commercial competitors have always faced. But take heart: hard headed decision makers are looking at open source. It won’t always feel like it, but this is a success.
