Ultima editie

Welcome to edition six of Open Minds which is designed to give you fresh insights into the key communications challenges facing organisations.

In this new edition we look at:

In 'Going eco-efficient with IT', we interview Andy Lawrence, research director for eco-efficient IT at the 451 Group, the independent  technology industry  analyst company based in Europe and the US. We explore what strategies organisations can pursue to become more environmentally-friendly in a cost effective way using technology.

Driving productivity with unified communications - Dale Vile, a founder of the independent analyst firm, Freeform Dynamics, looks at how enterprises can make Unified Communications work effectively and more efficiently on a sustainable basis. Plus: watch our short four minute video for busy executives on the issues of unified communications.

What impact will the new 802.11n wireless technology have on enterprise networks? Wireless LANs are appearing in offices everywhere - and with a new standard, they can run as fast as wired Ethernet. But a lot of the new 802.11n Wi-Fi equipment hits a problem when you plug it in - it needs more power than the Ethernet connection.

Siemens believes it has the answer, and those claims have been tested by analyst Craig Mathias of Farpoint Group.

We talk to Craig Mathias and interview Luc Roy, Vice President of Product Planning, Siemens Enterprise Communications, about the  energy issues, reliability and benefits of the new 802.11n wireless technology.

And let’s face it, none of them are difficult to use. So why all the fuss about this thing called ‘unified communications’ (UC)? After all, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? Continue reading…
